Acupuncture is a traditional form of Chinese medicine that in recent years has become a part of westernized medicine due to its incredible ability to compliment modern medicine. Certain conditions such as anhidrosis (non-sweating) and head shaking can often be treated more successfully with acupuncture than with traditional western therapies alone.

Dr. Golden completed her acupuncture training at the Chi Institute of Veterinary Acupuncture in Ocala Florida.

  • Lameness (especially if it cannot be localized with traditional blocking or has failed to respond to traditional treatment)
  • Respiratory Issues (chronic cough, asthma, heaves, COPD)

During an acupuncture appointment Dr. Golden with learn about the patient’s temperament and presenting issues. She will then perform an acupuncture scan which involves looking at the patient’s tongue, feeling the pulse strength, and gently applying pressure to a variety of points to determine a diagnosis and create a treatment plan. One of the benefits of acupuncture is that it takes a whole body approach and while a patient may present for one ailment, Dr. Golden is able to work on that problem while also treating other underlying issues that the patient may not yet be clinical for. In this way acupuncture can be used as a preventative therapy and to help any horse age gracefully.

Dr. Golden uses a variety of types of acupuncture to customize each patient’s treatment from dry needling (traditional fine needle insertion) to use of heat (moxibustion), B-Vitamins (aqua-acupuncture), and gentle electrical stimulation.
